Party in the Park took place on Saturday 16th July at Sworder’s Field. The packed-out music festival had an impressive lineup of performances from The Brand New Heavies, The Hoosiers, BBC Introducing, alongside up-and-coming talent from Bishop’s Stortford.
Sponsored by Intercounty and many other local businesses, the purpose of Party in the Park was to celebrate local heroes whose selfless work often goes unnoticed. Heroes from local voluntary organisations, charities, the NHS, schools and keyworkers were invited guests. They were treated to free food and drink in a dedicated hospitality area. Twenty local businesses came together to donate prizes to each of the five award winners. Money was raised for four local charities Bishop’s Stortford Food Bank, Centre Algarve, Grove Cottage, and Stortford Heroes. Stortford Heroes is a new charity set up by local technology company ITVET, dedicated to investing in the community and supporting their charity partners.
A highlight of the event included talented local artists Scarlet Thomas and Rosie James. The atmosphere was uplifting with the crowd cheering loudly and everyone on their feet dancing in the sunshine. The volunteer team, with many members from ITVET, worked in harmony to keep things running smoothly and keep the park litter-free with smiles on their faces. They also delivered warm and friendly service to the local heroes. The heroes’ food was prepared by local Community Chef Sanjay Prosenjit Kumar. Finally, emotions ran high as the Bishop’s Stortford Vaccine centre accepted their award of Hero Organisation for their perseverance in vaccinating Bishop’s Stortford and giving back our freedom after the COVID19 pandemic.
The festival had a relaxed community vibe with a strong family feel. Local kids were treated to train rides, face painting, glitter tattoos, pop up role play, a kids disco, superhero and princess character visits and archery lessons.
Daryl Fuller, CEO of one of the event’s organisers, ITVET Ltd, and Trustee of Stortford Heroes, said: “We’re so proud of how Party in the Park went. It was inspiring to see so many people come together to celebrate the amazing people in our community. We’re really excited about community initiatives we have in the pipeline. This work is central to ITVET’s values; using our business to have a positive impact on our people and community.”
Party in the Park was the first project hosted by Stortford Heroes. Their next project is to create a community fridge in Bishop’s Stortford working with local supermarkets, cafes, and restaurants. This project, aiming to prevent food waste, has received a £5000 grant from East Herts District Council.
